Google "business acumen" and numerous sources, from reputable researchers across the globe, provide a variety of definitions; ranging from learning business intelligence in higher educational facilities, to a natural occurring business savvy.

Identifying leadership skills is one challenge. Developing business acumen within your future leaders another. Retaining leaders yet another.

Sending individuals to an outside training agency can provide some core skills, but won't necessarily develop the acumen best suited for the individual business. Once the recognised individuals have been nurtured, it is of utmost importance to retain them, otherwise time, money and effort will have been wasted.
